Stuart Anderson Steam Up

The following photos were taken at the Stuart Anderson farm on 10/5/2008. This was the first time I attended this event. It is not publicized. The family and friends steam up their engines and the public seems to be welcome to stop by. There is a potluck that is limited to invited guests. I found out about this event from a local gentleman. The engines in steam this day were an Avery and a Case. I took a photo of the informational posters that were displayed for each engine. The group in attendance was very friendly and I got information on some local suppliers. I also got a great deal of information on getting a boiler certified in Colorado.

Curiously, both engines were fired with wood. That was a first for me. (It was also the first time I had seen an Avery.) The stacks were putting out very little smoke and I did not see any sparks or embers. My biggest fear for firing my engine has been starting a fire that would burn down my neighborhood. Both engines were in great shape and sounded great. I left before the potluck started, as I was not an invited guest. I hope that I can come back next year. I really need to get my butt in gear and get the Groton back into steam.
